AMD's RadeonSI Gallium3D driver could soon be down to just two GL extensions left before seeing OpenGL 4.4 compliance.
Well known AMD Mesa developer Marek Olšák today posted a patch for ARB_texture_clear , one of the few extensions left for the OpenGL 4.4 TODO list for this RadeonSI Gallium3D driver that supports GCN GPUs. The ARB_clear_texture support is currently residing on the Mesa mailing list but will hopefully reach Mesa Git soon.
The Intel and Nouveau NVC0 drivers have already supported ARB_clear_texture while RadeonSI still has to finish up ARB_enhanced_layouts and ARB_query_buffer_object before being in compliance with OpenGL 4.4. For OpenGL 4.5, the RadeonSI stack still needs ARB_cull_distance and KHR_robustness.
AMD is getting close to RadeonSI OpenGL 4.4~4.5, but it remains to be seen if it will be filed away in time for the next Mesa release. The next Mesa release (12.1 or could be known as 13.0) is likely due out in September and thus gives AMD developers just a few weeks before the code will be branched. Hopefully they -- as well as the Nouveau NVC0 crew -- will be able to at least get GL 4.4 if not GL 4.5.
