Today, July 31, 2016, the Simplicity Linux developers proudly announced the general availability of the Simplicity Linux 16.07 GNU/Linux operating system for personal computers.

Simplicity Linux 16.07 comes three months after the previous stable release, Simplicity Linux 16.04, to bring lots of updated components and the latest GNU/Linux technologies. As usual, the distribution ships with the Mini and Desktop editions based on the lightweight LXPup OS, a Puppy Linux derivative using the LXDE desktop environment.

Additionally, there's the X flavor, which features cutting-edge software projects and it's based on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system with various technologies borrowed from the antiX Linux project. However, that doesn't mean that Simplicity Linux is moving base from Puppy Linux to Debian, at least not yet.

"Whilst we still have a lot of love for Puppy Linux and all it’s derivatives, sometimes it’s hard to make certain packages work, especially newer packages. This is just the first test of whether or not we’re going to move to a Debian base for Simplicity, a version of Mini," reads today's announcement .

Simplicity Linux 16.10 to offer a Desktop edition based on Debian

It would appear that the Simplicity Linux development team is quite interested in moving to a Debian GNU/Linux base, as they're promising to build a Desktop edition based on the latest Debian technologies for the next major release of the operating system, Simplicity Linux 16.10.

But, before anything else, they would like first to know what users think, so they are urging anyone interested in running Simplicity Linux on their personal computers to upgrade to today's 16.07 release (the X edition), and see if they like the Debian base.

If users send negative feedback and still show love the Puppy Linux base, nothing will be changed for the Simplicity Linux 16.10 release. In the meantime, we invite you to download Simplicity Linux 16.07 right now via our website for 64-bit and 32-bit computers.
